Home Made Pizza Dough Recipe Simplified

HOME MADE PIZZA YOU WILL LOVE!

In my house, we hardly ever order out for pizza or have pizza delivered. Instead we make our own pizza just how we like it.

Finding a good pizza dough recipe online that actually tastes like pizza dough is a task made for people who have the time to test and retest dough.

I myself have been hording a simple pizza dough recipe for about 20 years. I hardly ever share it and for good reason. I'm a Chef! lol

I hate to share pizza recipes. Actually I hate sharing recipes period! I guess that comes with the territory in this business. Recipes are like gold and nobody gives away gold, do they?

Pizza is one of those family oriented foods that everyone can take part in making. Kids can roll the dough, top the pizza, and Mom and Dad can rule the oven. This is pretty much how it plays out in my house when it comes to making pizza.

Dough Recipe

  • 1 Packet of Yeast or 1/6th cup.
  • 6 cups regular non self rising flour
  • 1 table spoon sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
Activate the yeast by using about 1 cup Luke warm water and the sugar. Mix well and allow to bubble at room temperature.

Place the flour in a large mixing bowl, add the salt and garlic powder, yeast (once active) and about 3+/- cups water. Mix and knead well till pliable and consistently firm, and form into a large ball with the bottom pinched. Cover the bowl with a towel and allow to rest for about 45 mins in room temp.

The dough will rise quite high. You will need to punch it down and form it into a flat round sheet. I'll toss it and knead into a semi flat shape, then roll it a little till it will cover the pan.

I normally do a stuffed crust by over sizing the dough by about 2 inches. Then I use Mozzarella cheese sticks we buy for the kids to fold under the crust line. Basically hide it in the edge of the dough, pinch it over the cheese and press the edge into the dough.

Add your sauce, cheese, toppings and bake for about 30mins at 325 or 20mins at 365. Normally I just check around 18mins and decide how much longer it will need to bake. It depends on how thick your topping mass is and the thickness of the dough.

I hope you will enjoy this simple pizza dough recipe and have some fun with your family making pizza. Adjust to your tastes, add more salt or sugar or whatever. The point is, have fun!
