Thumbtack wants Culinary Professionals
I am going to be honest about my feelings with using Thumbtack from a Culinary point of view. Although Thumbtack might work for most professions, it would be hard for Chefs like myself to trust in this service.
First of all, in about an hour after posting my service on Thumbtack, I immediately had dozens of requests. Great, right? Well yes if you could respond to these requests without having to pay $8.00 to do so.
Secondly, these prospects they offer as leads apparently back out after you provide your quote for your services.
Thirdly, the only one making money in my situation was Thumbtack. Which would be fine if there was a refund on lost leads or something along those lines, but there isn't. Just tons of leads with a price tag for each.
My opinion is that a majority of the "Leads" provided by Thumbtack are fake and only provided to the user to extract money for responding to the leads they provide.
Most of the "Clients" or "leads" Thumbtack provides are strange to begin with. I have serious doubts about names like Ngere or Kabeer. These names remind me of Nigerian scam names found on dating sites and the such.
If you are having success with Thumbtack, congratulations! I myself do not trust the system and find the service they provide with leads to be fraudulently represented.
Paying to answer each lead would make Thumbtack money, not me.
I am sure that in different industries this might work, but as far as from what I have experienced, it's seems fake to me. That's my opinion on Thumbtack as of now. Until I see results worthy of changing my opinion, I'm staying away from Thumbtack.
