Cafe Bustelo and Chock-full of Nuts

A Good Blend of Coffees.

Beep…
Beep…
Beep!
Thank god for my coffee maker!

To say “I love coffee”, for me, is an understatement. I love coffee that can kick start a dead horse. I love coffee that sends out that “You need to get the f**k up!” fresh brewed coffee smell, and I love making it, even half blind in my boxers, in the wee early morning AM, that’s if… if I should forget to set it up in the previous PM. Normally, my wife takes care of setting up the coffee maker, or I’ll get up early and get it working, but sometimes, depending on the night, it’s all on me.

I can settle for the weakest most tasteless coffee you can imagine, or stuff so strong, you’d swear Juan Valdez and his mule lived in the coffee maker it came from. Now….Don’t get me wrong, I’m no designer coffee drinker. I hate hazelnut. Leave me the f**k alone artificial flavorings! No, no…I’m no coffee trend keeper, I don’t do coffee shops unless I’m stealing Wi-Fi, and then I will most likely never actually go in and order anything either. Hey, coffee shop places, make it password protected if you want customers to come inside. 

I’ve maybe been to Star Bucks 5 or 6 times in my lifetime of adult coffee “outsourcing” needs.

Normally, I only drink coffee at home. While I can say that some gourmet blends from some coffee places I’ve been to are a tad better than the average cup, but the pricing and the need for it are the most damming factoids as to why I home brew. Also, I think it’s a traditional thing for me, after all, coffee was the mainstay item of every morning between my parental units and apparently for my kids too. We fit into the traditional ranks of home brewing parents, who try desperately to get a cup of coffee, full of Java goodness, in our hands, before hearing our yearlings crawl out of their roost. Normally they beat us to it, and we are clinking spoons as they battle over the bathroom!

How someone “takes” their coffee, is a intimate thing. Some take it black, some more milk than coffee, some just sweeteners or just cream.

How do you “take” yours? Espresso? Cappuccino? Whatever. It’s coffee and it’s personal. Me? Sugar and cream, or just sugar. I do on occasion drink it black. My wife likes a ton of cream, or Coffeemate powder, here lately she’s been on a hazelnut flavoring binge. Me? No way.

We fluctuate sometimes, depending on the circumstances. If you end up stuck at a friends house for the night, due to snow, and wake up to their own respective fresh brewed coffee, you will gladly take whatever they have, however they have it, just so you can savor that first early morning cup of coffee. Sugar or artificial sweeteners? Cream, milk, half and half? Yadda, yadda, yadda….until…viola…your own customized cup of coffee is in your hands, all warm and yummy, even if it’s not how you normally like it, it’s yours.

This simple 50/50 blend of two fine coffees produces a strong, robust and satisfying brew. A bitterness that melts away, with strong aromas of chicory and hints of….look…I’m not a coffee guru….but I like good coffee…strong coffee…so I can’t describe the flavor, other than its strong and flavorful, wonderfully potent and freaking awesome!

Chock-full of NuTs and CafĂ© Bustelo mixed together in a 50/50 consistency makes for an excellent slow or quick brew blend. The caffeine content is good. Also makes good Espresso and Cappuccino…this is my, “wake the f**k up, bright and early blend”, or so I call it.

On my shelf sits an old Maxwell House coffee can, filled with Chock-full of Nuts and Bustelo, and you can have the same, just mix it 50/50, and enjoy. 

Kaa-pow!
Chef Jeff.
